Masterpiece
I went to SUNY Oswego in the Fall of 91. My roommate was incensed when I said I thought the Grateful Dead had seen their best days. He was all, “Phil
...
just said they are at their peak”. So he played some of it for me. And I got on the bus. Looking back. Spring of 90 is almost as good as 77 or 74. Just tight. A big brassy clean sound. Bright and clean. As if they took all the good parts of the 80’s and slowed it back down and integrated it all. Summer 93 was their Indian Summer, but they’d never play this well again. Brent died and Jer lost the heart. Phil, Bob and the Drummers would keep the machine going but really…..Spring of 90 is the pinnacle and the beginning of the end.

Fantastic first night from Atlanta...
...truly from start to finish. First set is a remarkable exhibition of the extent of the grateful dead's song selection by 1990. Three covers, respectively,
...
from 1930 (walkin' blues), 58 (big river), and 63 (me and my uncle). Originals first played in 1970 (candyman, to lay me down), 75 (music never stopped), 79 (althea), 82 (touch), 88 (victim), and 89 (little light). Highlight of the first set comes with the trifecta to close it out: victim->to lay me down (midi-solo 4:35-5:45)->music never stopped. As for the second set, as good as the 3/15 China-Rider is, this one to open is even better (Without a Net). Post-space meanders into the ultimate Mr. Fantasy->Hey Jude (WAN) that makes its way through a solid Truckin' to yet another beautiful Stella Blue (following the one at the Knick) and a rocker Sugar Magnolia to wrap things up. To encore, we're treating to It's All Over Now, Baby Blue, yet another reminder of Dylan's classic line (paraphrasing) that they -- GD -- did it better than him. Hard to argue with all the five stars, but I'm going with four. Start of a phenomenal -- too often overlooked -- ATL run to close out Spring 90.

Absolute perfection has been achieved with this upload. Flawless. One of a kind MIDI solo during To Lay Me Down. China>Rider and Mr.Fantasy are the
...
versions from Without a Net. Both sets are standard setting Spring 90' masterpieces. The Charlie Miller uploads are basically "X marks the spot" when you have more than a few to choose from, for those just starting to poke around.
